Remote Village Electrification Projects
- Access to reliable electricity for all is one of the key drivers of socio-economic development.
- According to 2011’Census Data’ 45% of Rural Indian households (HHS) lack access to electricity supply though only 6% ( ~ 35000) of Indian Village, remain unconnected to the electricity distribution infrastructure.
- Still there are remote village which cannot be electrified through central grid extension due to techno economic consideration, those which are unlikely to be electrified in near future, such remote villages can be electrified through small scale decentralized renewable energy generation system in an off grid stand alone mode.
- Several Government and Non Government (NGO) Agencies are promoting DRE in India. The Ministry of Power (MOP) through its DDG (Decentralized Distributed Generation) Policy.
- Distributed/ Decentralized Renewable power projects using Wind Energy, Bio Mass Energy, Solar Energy Hybrid System are being established in the Country to meet the Energy requirement of isolated communities and areas which are not likely to be electrified in near future.
- The Ministry is implementing a program for providing financial support for electrification of those remote un-electrified census Village and un electrified hamlets of electrified census Villages where grid extension is either not feasible or not cost effective and are not covered under RGGVY scheme. Such Village are provided basic facilities for electricity/ lighting through various renewable energy sources such as Bio mass, Bio fuel, Bio gas, Mini hydro, Solar etc.
